Dollfus & Muller sanforizing felts are for use on the Palmer unit of the compressive shrinking range or sanforizing machine. The sanforizing machine does for woven fabric what a compactor does for knitted fabrics: pre-shrink and stabilize. The difference between the sanforizer and compactor is shrinkage is not given by the felt but by a thick rubber belt using steam and mechanical pressure. Sanforizing machines are used in shirting, bottom-weight and denim finishing plants.
The sanfor felt, also referred to as a Palmer felt, shrinking felt, zero zero felt blanket, drying felt or sanfor blanket, has two main purposes:
- To dry the wet fabric coming from the shrinking unit
- To improve fabric handling.
Dollfus & Muller felts offer both excellent fabric drying and shrinkage. A specially reinforced denim sanfor felt is available that resists the chemicals used in denim processing.
